"I understand a lot, but when I have to speak I freeze." It is by far the most common thing I hear. Usually it is not a knowledge problem: it is a practice problem, the lack of someone who listens patiently and corrects without cutting you off.

In these classes you do most of the talking. I steer the conversation, hand you the word you are missing at the right moment, and note the mistakes that keep coming back so we can work on them without interrupting your train of thought.

  • Spontaneous speech: telling stories, giving opinions, disagreeing, negotiating, asking.
  • Pronunciation and intonation so you sound natural and clear.
  • Fillers and connectors that buy you thinking time instead of silence.
  • Listening in real situations, including fast speech and different accents.
  • The situations that make you uncomfortable: phone calls, appointments, small talk.
  • Vocabulary about your own life, not textbook characters.
